The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has released a grim update following the multiple explosions that struck the Borno State capital on Monday night.

According to official reports, at least 23 people have lost their lives, while 146 others are suffering from varying degrees of injuries

The deadly blasts occurred at high-traffic locations, including the entrance of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, the Post Office area, and the famous Monday Market.

Surajo Abdullahi, the Zonal Coordinator for NEMA, confirmed that a total of 169 victims were successfully evacuated to various medical centers for urgent care.

Currently, the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) is treating 108 survivors, while others are being managed at the Maiduguri Specialist Hospital and Umaru Shehu Hospital.

This resurgence of violence has forced the Borno State Police Command to deploy its Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit to sweep the affected zones for any remaining threats.

While the city has enjoyed a period of relative peace over the last few years, these insurgency-related attacks have brought back "the dark days" for many residents, prompting calls for increased security operatives to be stationed at strategic points.
