The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, has taken a major step toward decentralizing law enforcement in Nigeria by creating a steering committee for State Police

During his first major meeting with senior officers in Abuja, Disu explained that this move is designed to bring policing closer to local communities and improve national security.

The committee will study how State Police can work alongside the national force to fight crime more effectively.

Members will review police models from around the world, look at recruitment and training standards, and create "oversight mechanisms" to ensure officers behave professionally.

IGP Disu clarified that State Police will not replace the Nigeria Police Force. Instead, they will work together as part of a "coordinated national security framework."

The 8-member team is led by Prof. Olu Ogunsakin, a top expert in police studies, with CP Bode Ojajuni serving as the Secretary.

Other key Members: CP Emmanuel Ojukwu (Rtd), DCP Okebechi Agora, DCP Suleyman Gulma,         ACP Ikechukwu Okafor, CSP Tolulope IpinmishoProvost, Police Public Relations School.
