The newly sworn-in Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, has sent a strong warning to the Nigeria Police Force, declaring an end to corruption and the abuse of power.
Speaking at a high-level conference in Abuja, Disu stated that under his leadership, no officer—regardless of rank—is above the law.
The IGP emphasized that seniority or high positions will not protect any officer found guilty of extortion, unlawful arrest, or misconduct.
Disu noted that police authority comes from the people. He promised that professionalism, accountability, and transparency will be the new daily standards for every officer.
Any officer caught breaking the law will face "swift disciplinary action," which includes immediate dismissal and criminal prosecution.
To catch corrupt officers, the IGP is empowering the Complaints Response Unit (CRU) and the X-Squad to investigate reports independently without internal interference.
