The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has officially denied allegations that he forged his academic or professional credentials.
Through a statement from his office on Saturday, March 7, 2026, Kalu described the claims as a "smear campaign" designed to damage his reputation.
Kalu’s team reminded the public that he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2011, a process that involves strict background checks by the Nigerian Law School and the Council of Legal Education.
The Deputy Speaker noted that no court or legal authority has ever found his certificates to be invalid or falsified.
The statement comes after a group of activists threatened to protest at the National Assembly, claiming there were issues with his NYSC records.
Kalu urged the public to ignore "unproven claims" and allow the proper institutions to handle any official petitions through the legal system.
