Legendary Nigerian footballer Garba Lawal has reacted with deep sadness to the news that 19-year-old midfielder Daniel Daga was sentenced to six months in prison in Norway.
Lawal, a former Super Eagles star, warned that even a single day in jail can destroy a young player's reputation and future in European football.
Lawal emphasized that once a player is convicted of a crime like sexual assault, top European clubs become very hesitant to sign them.
He urged young Nigerian players moving abroad to be extremely cautious and avoid "distractions," noting that laws in foreign countries are often very strict.
Lawal expressed disappointment because Daga was a rising star who had already gained global exposure playing for Nigeria at the U-20 World Cup.
Even if the club (Molde FK) fights the case or gets the sentence reduced, Lawal believes the "dent" on Daga's character will be hard to erase.
