The Police Service Commission (PSC) has officially promoted seven Assistant Inspectors-General (AIGs) to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG)

This major move, announced on Friday, March 6, 2026, is designed to fill leadership gaps following the retirement of eight senior officers, including Frank Mba.

The Newly Promoted DIGs:

  • Zachariah Fera Achinyan (formerly AIG Zone 4, Makurdi)

  • Zango Ibrahim Baba (formerly AIG Logistics and Supply)

  • Isyaku Mohammed (formerly AIG Armament, Abuja)

  • Margaret Agebe Ochalla (formerly AIG FCID Annex, Lagos)

  • Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman (formerly AIG Police Accounts, Abuja)

  • Kenechukwu Onwuemelie (formerly AIG Zone 15, Maiduguri)

  • Umar Shehu Nadada (formerly AIG Zone 14, Katsina)

The officers were selected after passing written exams and oral interviews in Abuja.

These promotions were necessary because eight previous DIGs retired shortly after Tunji Disu was confirmed as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP).

PSC Chairman Hashimu Argungu urged the new leaders to prioritize national security and maintain high standards of integrity.
