The DR Congo national team is showing no signs of slowing down as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup intercontinental play-off

Even with an ongoing NFF protest hanging over their heads, head coach Sébastien Desabre has insisted that his squad is "fired up" and ready to secure their spot on the world stage.

The Nigeria Football Federation filed a complaint following a heartbreaking loss in last November’s African play-off final, where the Leopards defeated the Super Eagles 4-3 in a tense penalty shootout.

At the heart of the dispute is a claim regarding the improper switch of nationality for certain Congolese players.

To avoid further complications while awaiting an official resolution, DR Congo has made the strategic move to omit Michel-Ange Balikwisha and Mario Stroeykens from their latest 26-man squad

Despite these roster changes, the team is set to travel to Mexico to compete in Guadalajara and Monterrey.

Desabre remains undeterred, noting that this journey has been a "long road" consisting of 13 matches, and the team is prepared to face either Jamaica or New Caledonia on March 31 to end their 50-year World Cup drought.
