It has been a somber weekend for the Nigerian entertainment world as news breaks of the death of both a cinema star and a legendary musician.

Umar Ascon, a staple of Hausa films, died after spending time in medical care for a long-term health challenge.

Known for his versatility and presence in the long-running series Garwashi, Ascon's journey from a Kano merchant to a screen star inspired many. His legacy lives on through his body of work and the many lives he touched in the Kano movie scene.

In a separate but equally tragic development, the Nigerian gospel community is mourning Evangelist Toun Soetan, who died at the age of 73.

Known affectionately as Evangelist Shouet, she was the original composer of Darling Jesus, a song sung in churches nationwide.

Beyond her songwriting, she was a spiritually gifted minister who founded a music college to train the next generation of worship leaders.

Both Ascon and Soetan leave behind deep cultural footprints, and their contributions to the entertainment industry will be remembered for years to come.
