The Nigerian Army has officially confirmed that the deadly explosions which rocked the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) on Monday evening were the work of Boko Haram terrorists.
According to a statement from Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Media Information Officer for Operation HADIN KAI, the attacks were carried out by suicide bombers who detonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at three key locations.
The targets included the Monday Market, the Post Office area, and the entrance to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, all struck during the sensitive period of Iftar (breaking of fast).
Military authorities described these acts as "cowardly," aimed at causing mass casualties in crowded public spaces.
Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, working alongside the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, have successfully secured the affected sites.
While emergency response teams from NEMA continue to assist survivors at the Maiduguri Specialist Hospital, the Army warned that intelligence reports suggest the insurgents may have deployed more suicide bombers into the city.
Consequently, security operatives have intensified counter-IED measures and patrols to track down any remaining threats within the state capital.
