Adamu Atiku Abubakar, the eldest son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has officially resigned as the Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State

This move follows the recent decision of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to leave the PDP and join the APC.

Adamu’s departure comes just one week after Governor Fintiri’s big political switch. Because Adamu’s father is a top leader in the PDP, many see this resignation as a way for Adamu to remain loyal to his father’s party.

In his resignation letter dated March 2, 2026, Adamu stated that his decision came after "deep personal reflection." He did not openly criticize the Governor; instead, he thanked him for the chance to serve the state.

During his time in office, Adamu was in charge of building roads and managing energy projects. He described his time as a "privilege" and thanked the people of Adamawa for their support and prayers.
