Nine suspects accused of involvement in the deadly Yelwata community attack in Benue State have pleaded not guilty to a 57-count terrorism charge.
The Federal High Court in Abuja heard the case, with the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), withdrawing charges against one of the defendants, Yakubu Mamman.
The amended charge alleges the defendants conspired to attack Yelwata in June 2025, resulting in approximately 150 deaths and widespread destruction.
The prosecution is seeking an accelerated hearing, while the defence has been instructed to file a formal bail application.
The court has adjourned the matter to February 26 and 27, 2026, for trial commencement. The defendants are being held at Kuje Correctional Centre.
