President Bola Tinubu has officially signed the Electoral Act 2026 (Amendment) Bill into law.
During the ceremony in Abuja, he explained that while technology is important, the new law ensures that manual result sheets will serve as the final authority if electronic systems fail or get hacked.
The President noted that because Nigeria’s internet (broadband) isn't perfect, the law now says that if electronic transmission fails, the manually signed Form EC8A will be used to declare the winner.
Tinubu praised the National Assembly for creating a system that avoids "unnecessary hacking" and glitches, ensuring that no Nigerian is disenfranchised by computer errors.
The President emphasized that while computers help, humans still finalize the results. He reminded citizens that the actual voting and counting are still done manually by people at the polling units.
The law aims to bring "sanity" and stability to the 2027 elections, making the process more transparent for everyone.
