Former Chief of Staff to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Gambari, has revealed that the late leader was deeply pained by his inability to resolve Nigeria's insecurity issue.
Speaking on Channels Television, Gambari said Buhari was particularly troubled by persistent banditry and violent attacks in the North-West and North-Central regions, despite his efforts to counter Boko Haram insurgency.
Gambari noted that Buhari felt he had done his best, but the situation remained a heavy burden. "He did a lot by making sure no territory was under Boko Haram, but the situation in the North-West and North-Central pained him a lot," Gambari said, adding that Buhari wondered if his base wasn't good enough.
Gambari also addressed coup rumors before Buhari's exit, sparked by Defence Minister claims.
He stated he wasn't aware of any such intelligence reaching Buhari through his office, noting the president had multiple information sources.
