Tension has gripped senior military officers in Nigeria following a failed coup attempt against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in September 2026.

Since the incident, officers have reportedly kept a low profile, avoiding sensitive discussions and gatherings that could raise suspicion.

Military sources say open talks about politics or coups are now off-limits, with one officer noting it's "taboo" to discuss such topics.

No formal directive was issued, but personnel are exercising extreme caution.

Over 40 officers are being probed, with a military court arraignment underway.

The Defence Headquarters says those implicated will face trial, ensuring accountability and fairness.

The failed coup has sparked unease within military circles, but the Defence Headquarters insists the Armed Forces remain committed to constitutional governance and national stability.
