Former Chief of Staff to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Gambari, has expressed dismay that those who benefit most from Nigeria's system are often the least committed to its progress.
Speaking on Channels Television, Gambari said those who seek power aren't willing to make necessary sacrifices, like being fair and thinking nationally rather than ethnically.
Gambari, who served under Buhari's military regime and later as Chief of Staff in his civilian administration, shared insights from his experience.
He noted that some individuals' lack of commitment to Nigeria's stability and development weighs heavily on him.
Gambari attributed Buhari's decision to appoint him as Chief of Staff in 2020 to the president's loyalty to those who contributed to his development. "He is loyal to a fault to people he felt had made a contribution to his development," Gambari said.
