Former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), is fighting to reclaim three properties temporarily seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The properties, located in Kano and Abuja, were among 57 assets the EFCC alleged were acquired through unlawful means.
Malami's legal team, led by Joseph Daudu (SAN), argues that the properties were lawfully acquired and declared in Malami's Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) asset forms between 2019 and 2023.
They claim the EFCC obtained the interim forfeiture order by suppressing material facts and misrepresenting ownership status.
The properties in question are:
- Plot 157, Lamido Crescent, Kano (No. 9)
- A duplex in Wuse II, Abuja (No. 18)
- ADC Kadi Malami Foundation Building (No. 48), valued at ₦56 million, held in trust for Malami's late father’s estate
Malami's team asserts there's no prima facie evidence linking these properties to unlawful activities or specific offenses.
They're seeking a court order to vacate the interim forfeiture and restrain the EFCC from further action.
