An APC chieftain in Kano State, AbdulMajeed Dan Bilki Kwamanda, believes Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso still wields significant political influence in the state, despite being in the NNPP. Kwamanda made this statement in response to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's recent switch from NNPP to APC, calling it a betrayal of Kwankwaso.

According to Kwamanda, if Kwankwaso fields a strong candidate in the 2027 elections, the NNPP could gain substantial support, even from APC members. He emphasized that Kano's politics is more about strategy and candidate strength than party affiliations. Ahmad Garban Bichi, from a respected family, could be a strong candidate if Kwankwaso decides to contest through a proxy.

Kwamanda also suggested Ibrahim Khalil, a former ADC governorship candidate, as a potential deputy governor. He described Khalil as popular, educated, and well-connected. The defection of Governor Yusuf has left Kwankwaso visibly hurt and angry, with Kwamanda stating, "In all my life, I have never seen Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso this angry".

Kwamanda criticized Governor Yusuf's move, saying it's driven by personal gain rather than a genuine interest in serving Kano. He lamented the growing trend of self-interest in Nigerian politics, stating, "Politics today is no longer about the people. It's about personal ambition and betrayal
