Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai has broken his silence following a tense standoff with security agents at the Abuja airport.
Speaking through his lawyer, El-Rufai called the attempt to arrest him "illegal" and "lawless," vowing that he is not a coward and will never run away from the law.
The Key Arguments:
No Warrant, No Arrest: El-Rufai’s team says the DSS tried to take him without showing a single piece of paper or a legal warrant. He refused to follow them, demanding to see a formal invitation first.
Stolen Passport: The former Governor accused agents of "stealing" his international passport by snatching it from his aide without any legal right to do so.
The Monday Appointment: His lawyers revealed they had already told the EFCC that El-Rufai would voluntarily show up at their office on Monday, February 16, making the airport ambush unnecessary.
Citizen Power: The statement thanked ordinary Nigerians at the airport who stood by him and insisted that the secret police follow the Constitution.
