Tension flared at the Abuja Airport on Thursday when security agents tried to arrest the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, immediately after his flight from Egypt landed.
While the agents were unsuccessful in taking him away, they did leave with his international passport.
What Happened at the Airport:
The Confrontation: As El-Rufai arrived from Cairo, security officials moved to take him into custody.
The Stand-Off: El-Rufai refused to go with them, insisting that they must show a formal invitation or a legal reason for the arrest.
The Seizure: Since they couldn't arrest him, the agents reportedly snatched his passport from one of his assistants before leaving the scene.
The Warning: This event comes just days after El-Rufai warned the public that the government was planning to target him for joining the opposition party (ADC).
