Panic broke out in Yenagoa early Wednesday morning after a bomb, known as an IED, exploded at the Bayelsa State Secretariat. The blast happened around 6:00 am, just as the day was starting, causing a major security scare at the heart of the state government.

The Police Response: The State Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah, rushed to the scene with a special anti-bomb squad and a drone team. Here is what they found:

  • The Blast: The first device exploded, but luckily, no one was killed or injured, and no buildings were damaged.

  • A Second Danger: While searching the area, the police found a second bomb that hadn't gone off yet. Experts were able to safely "neutralize" it before it could cause harm.

  • An Arrest: Police arrested a 60-year-old man named Pentecost Elijah at the scene. He is currently being questioned to find out why this happened.

Work Resumed: To keep everyone safe, the government closed the secretariat for four hours, affecting about 6,000 workers. However, by midday, the police declared the area safe and told everyone to return to their normal business.
