Atletico Madrid has secured the services of Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta in a deal worth £30.3 million, bolstering their attacking lineup ahead of the season's crucial phase.
Lookman, 28, joins the Spanish giants after a stellar spell with Atalanta, where he netted 55 goals and provided 27 assists since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2022. His impressive performances earned him the African Footballer of the Year award in 2024, and he was the only African player shortlisted for the men's Ballon d'Or, finishing 14th.
The London-born forward has switched his international allegiance to Nigeria, making his senior debut for the Super Eagles in 2022. Lookman has signed a contract with Atletico Madrid until June 2030, and his arrival is seen as a significant boost to Diego Simeone's squad, currently third in LaLiga.
Lookman's career has been marked by notable milestones, including his Charlton Athletic debut in 2015, Everton's Premier League debut goal, and loan stints at Fulham and Leicester City. He leaves Atalanta with an emotional farewell, paying tribute to the club and fans for making him feel at home.
In his own words, Lookman said, "To the Atalanta family, after nearly four years, the time has come for me to say goodbye... Together we made history, European champions, a night none of us will ever forget."
