Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai has spent his second night in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

While investigators grill him over billions in missing state funds, the Department of State Services (DSS) has opened a second legal battle against him.

El-Rufai was detained on Monday regarding a ₦432 billion corruption probe. The EFCC says they investigated for a year before inviting him and may seek a court order to keep him longer for questioning.

The probe follows a Kaduna State Assembly report claiming that loans and contracts awarded during his eight-year tenure were diverted or siphoned.

Separately, the DSS has charged El-Rufai in court for allegedly "hacking" or intercepting the phone calls of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu. This charge is based on comments he allegedly made during a recent TV interview.

El-Rufai’s lawyer, A.U. Mustapha (SAN), says his client is a "man of integrity" who is cooperating fully and should be granted bail as he is presumed innocent.
