Donald Trump, alongside his sons Eric and Donald Jr., and the Trump Organization, has filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS and Treasury Department.
The lawsuit alleges the agencies failed to prevent former IRS contractor Charles Littlejohn from leaking Trump's tax returns to media outlets, including the New York Times and ProPublica, in 2019 and 2020.
The plaintiffs claim the leak caused "significant and irreparable harm" to their reputations and finances, and are seeking punitive damages.
The lawsuit comes after the Treasury Department canceled contracts with Booz Allen Hamilton, Littlejohn's employer, and follows reports of Trump's tax returns published in 2020.
The Trumps argue they didn't know about the leak until much later, despite the New York Times reporting on it, citing Littlejohn's unauthorized disclosure.
The case is filed in Miami federal court, with Trump's personal lawyers representing him against the Justice Department
