A High Court in Abuja has set multiple dates to conclude the trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Godwin Emefiele, over allegations related to the naira redesign policy

The court, led by Justice Maryann Anenih, approved ten hearing dates: February 3 and 10, April 1 and 2, May 11-14, and June 9 and 10.

The trial, which started in 2024, is expected to wrap up within this period.

During the hearing, an EFCC witness, Emere Chinedu, revealed that the Presidency under former President Muhammadu Buhari approved the naira redesign, with a condition that printing must be done locally.

Chinedu also stated that Emefiele made six extra-judicial statements before an inter-agency probe panel.

The witness declined to comment on claims that a former EFCC chairman suggested the redesign to Buhari, citing the commission's lack of authority to propose currency changes
