A retired Army General, Mohammed Ibrahim Gana, has been arrested alongside his son, Lieutenant Colonel Sadiq Ibrahim-Gana, and other military officers over an alleged coup plot against President Bola Tinubu's government.
Gana, a Niger State indigene, is believed to have connections with Colonel Alhassan Ma'aji, described as the mastermind of the foiled plot.
The arrests include 35 military personnel and several civilians, with allegations of poor detention conditions and denied access to lawyers. The Defence Headquarters has acknowledged the coup plot allegations, saying those involved will face military judicial panels.
