The Fusengbuwa Ruling House has defended its decision to charge ₦10 million for the Awujale application form, saying it's a Yoruba tradition to attach a price tag to such positions.
Otunba Lateef Owoyemi, Olori Ebi of the ruling house, explained that the fee was reduced from ₦100 million after deliberations and was meant for logistics.
"12 members applied and paid ₦10 million each," Owoyemi said.
The money was refunded after the Ogun State Government asked them to open the process to all eligible family members.
The refunds were completed within three days.
Owoyemi emphasized that the funds were for administrative costs, not personal gain. "No king-making process is ever done on empty hands," he added.
The Ogun State Government has suspended the selection process citing security concerns and petitions over due process.
