The city of Kaduna experienced a massive security lockdown on Tuesday morning as the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) prepared to officially charge the former governor, Nasir El-Rufai

Residents and commuters faced significant traffic disruptions as early as 7 a.m. when armed personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force took control of the area surrounding the Federal High Court

To ensure a hitch-free proceeding, the Mobile Police Force and the NSCDC restricted vehicular movement, forcing motorists into narrow lanes near the old Nigerian Defence Academy.

This intense security presence follows the ICPC's announcement that the former governor would face trial for alleged corruption-related offences

Alongside a co-defendant, Joel Adoga, El-Rufai is being prosecuted under suit number FHC/KD/73/2026. The anti-graft agency has leveled serious accusations against them, including the conversion of public property and money laundering

While the atmosphere remained tense, the commission emphasized its dedication to the rule of law, ensuring that the legal proceedings follow strict constitutional guidelines after weeks of public debate regarding the politician's status.
