A terrifying scene unfolded in the Omugo community of Kwara State on Sunday as unidentified gunmen launched a violent assault on the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA).
The assailants stormed the church while the Sunday service was in full swing, creating chaos by shooting sporadically to traumatize the congregation.
During the heat of the attack, the criminals managed to abduct eight members of the church, dragging them into the nearby wilderness.
In a fortunate turn of events, three of those kidnapped worshippers managed to break free and escaped from their abductors shortly after the incident.
This left five victims still in captivity, sparking an immediate and massive rescue operation.
The Kwara State Government, through the Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju, has officially condemned the cowardly targeting of a religious place.
Security agencies, including local vigilantes and forest guards, have been deployed to the area to ensure the remaining victims are brought home safely and the perpetrators are brought to justice.
