The family of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has officially demanded his immediate release from the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).
Led by his son, Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives, the family claims the former governor is being held without any valid legal authority.
The family points out that the 14-day remand order obtained by the ICPC on February 19 has expired. As of March 6, 2026, they say there is no "legal instrument" justifying his continued stay in custody.
Despite being held for over two weeks, the ICPC has yet to charge El-Rufai with a crime in a competent court of law.
The statement describes the commission's actions as "brazen self-help," suggesting the agency is ignoring the law to keep the former governor behind bars.
The family believes the ICPC is being used as a tool for political persecution rather than serving as an impartial justice institution.
