The tight-knit community of Crete, Illinois, is currently paralyzed by grief following a series of devastating events that claimed seven lives in just a few days.
While the incidents are unrelated tragedies, the cumulative loss has left residents in a state of shock.
On Wednesday evening, a crowd of approximately 100 people gathered at Willowbrook Estates to hold a vigil for the Forde family.
The victims, identified as Patrick Forde, Stacy Forde, and their son Jacob Lambert, were described by those nearby as the "kind of neighbors everyone wants to have."
The peace of the neighborhood was shattered on Monday night when the Will County Sheriff’s Office discovered a horrific scene.
According to investigators, the violence was a targeted incident. Jacob Lambert was found deceased in a vehicle in the driveway, while his parents were found inside the family home.
Jenna Strouble, who shares children with Lambert, has been officially charged in the shooting.
She was apprehended in St. John, Indiana, and is currently awaiting extradition to Illinois to face justice.
For friends and family, the sudden loss of such "loved members of the estate" has been a total shock to the system.
