A devastating aviation accident has claimed the lives of at least 66 individuals in southern Colombia on March 23, 2026.

The Colombian Air Force confirmed that a Lockheed Martin Hercules C-130, carrying a total of 114 passengers and 11 crew members, went down shortly after takeoff.

According to Air Force Commander Fernando Silva, the aircraft departed from an airport in the remote Amazon region near the Peruvian border before crashing just two miles from a populated urban centre.

The nation’s Defence MinisterPedro Anulfo Sanchez, described the event as a "profoundly painful" tragedy for the Public Force

While military units reached the crash site in Puerto Leguízamo (Putumayo) quickly, the full scale of the victims is still being assessed.

Sanchez has urged the public to avoid speculation while official investigation protocols are underway.

This incident marks a dark chapter for the military transport division, as families await news amid the activation of emergency care services.
