A boat carrying migrants capsized off Libya's coast, leaving at least 53 people dead or missing. The vessel, with 55 African nationals, overturned north of Zuwara on February 5.

Only two Nigerian women survived, rescued by Libyan authorities.

One survivor lost her husband, while the other lost her two babies in the tragedy.

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) provided medical aid to the survivors and mourns the loss of life.

The boat departed Al-Zawiya, Libya, on February 5, and capsized six hours later. IOM data shows 375 migrants died or went missing in January alone, with over 1,300 missing along the Central Mediterranean route in 2025
