There are strong reports that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has stepped down from his position following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
Sources say the President asked him to resign on Monday, and a formal announcement is expected very soon.
It is reported that Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Tunji Disu has been chosen to replace Egbetokun as the new head of the Nigeria Police.
Insiders at the Presidential Villa claim Egbetokun was told to prepare his handover notes immediately after a private discussion with the President.
Egbetokun was originally supposed to retire in 2024, but a change in the Police Act had allowed him to stay longer. However, the President has the power to remove an IGP at any time.
While official spokespeople have not yet confirmed the news, preparations for a handover ceremony are reportedly already happening at the Force Headquarters.
