A Federal High Court in Lagos has ruled that Matthew Chukwuemeka Adebiyi must be sent to the United Kingdom to face serious criminal charges.

The UK government requested his return to answer for alleged murder and drug-related crimes.

Adebiyi is wanted in the UK following a warrant issued by a court in Croydon for homicide (killing someone) and narcotics (drugs) offences.

Justice Ayokunle Faji ruled that Nigeria must respect its international agreements and cannot be a "hiding place" for people fleeing from the law in other countries.

The judge confirmed that the Nigerian government followed all the right steps under the Extradition Act to allow his surrender to the British authorities.
