Liverpool manager Arne Slot is having a tough time, describing this season as the most challenging of his career. The Reds' recent defeat to Manchester City has dropped them to sixth place in the Premier League, sparking concerns about their Champions League hopes.
Slot took over from Jurgen Klopp in June 2024 and led Liverpool to their 20th top-flight title, but his second season has been rocky despite significant investment.
The club spent nearly £450 million on new signings, including Alexander Isak for a British-record £125 million.
So far, Liverpool's league record stands at 11 wins, six draws, and eight defeats. Slot isn't sugarcoating things, saying, "By a mile, all the other seasons I have managed, there were only positives." He's struggling with injuries and selection issues, with key players like Conor Bradley and Alexander Isak out long-term.
Slot knows Liverpool's standards are high, and they're not meeting them. "A draw feels like a loss," he said.
Missing out on Champions League football would be unacceptable, he stressed
