The US is stepping up its game in Nigeria, increasing military aid and intel sharing to tackle Islamic State-linked militants.
Lieutenant General John Brennan, deputy commander of US Africa Command, revealed this during a US-Nigeria security meeting in Abuja, saying they're working with partners to "target, kinetically, the threats, mainly ISIS".
The US is maintaining open lines with Sahel countries like Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali, recognizing the regional nature of the threat. Brennan emphasized their focus on empowering partners with equipment and capabilities, minus the red tape.
This move comes as jihadist violence escalates in Nigeria, with the US urging the government to act. The partnership aims to boost Nigeria's security forces, including delivering critical equipment like drones and helicopters.
What do you think about this development? Will it turn the tide against insurgency in Nigeria?
