Diezani Alison-Madueke's corruption trial hit a snag at London's Southwark Crown Court on Monday due to technical issues. The prosecution couldn't deliver its opening statement because of no internet access in the courtroom, so it's been pushed to Tuesday.
Alison-Madueke, 65, former OPEC president and Nigeria's ex-petroleum minister, was seen arriving and leaving Court 4 with a walking stick, wearing blue trousers. It's unclear if she needs the stick for medical reasons.
She's facing multiple bribery charges linked to her 2010-2015 tenure under President Goodluck Jonathan. Prosecutors claim she accepted bribes, including £100,000 cash, luxury cars, private jets, and London properties, from individuals seeking favors in oil contracts. Alison-Madueke pleads not guilty.
The trial, expected to last 10-12 weeks, will hear from witnesses and examine financial records. Co-defendants Doye Agama and Olatimbo Ayinde are also on trial for connected bribery charges.
