The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has initiated a probe into DR Congo's use of allegedly ineligible players during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, potentially reviving Nigeria's chances of qualifying for the tournament.
DR Congo had previously eliminated Nigeria from the African play-offs, winning 4-3 on penalties in Morocco. However, the NFF is contesting the eligibility of several DR Congo players, citing concerns over dual citizenship and non-compliance with Congolese law.
The investigation centers on six to nine DR Congo players who switched national allegiance, allegedly without formally renouncing their previous citizenships, a requirement under Congolese law. If proven, DR Congo's participation in the intercontinental play-off tournament could be in jeopardy
